Deisgn your everyday life!

This spring’s cultural course, which I produce for the Helsinki Cultural Office and is aimed at high schools, has finally started. The theme is “Design your own everyday life” (Designa din egen vardag!) and during the course the students get to do some city planning, look at how Finnish films from the 1930’s to 60’s depict the city, get a sneak peek into urban farming and see Blaue Frau’s theatre play about a girl in a wheel chair.

This week we had the city planning workshops led by an architect from the City Planning Office of Helsinki. The students got to know the Kalasatama area and about the plans for it, as well as make their own plan for one of the city blocks in the area. They had some great ideas including hotels, recreation and sport activities, housing, Berlin inspired tight city blocks with small shops at street level and housing in the higher levels, or more open areas with skateboard parks and other activities for young people. I was very impressed with how well the groups worked!

Weekdays

My days are filled with cultural courses, teaching how to make an e-portfolio, selling theatre plays to schools and daycare centres, etc. But mostly I’m just waiting for Christmas and holidays, some time off. Today it’s colder and fresher. It makes it easier to wake up :)

I'm wishing for more show! It makes it so much brighter. This is what last winter was like in Helsinki. So beautiful!

SMartBe

Today at the Produforum meeting we got to know SMartBe, an organization that is very interesting from a Produforum perspective, but definitely also from a To Culture With Love perspective. They work for securing the careers of people in cultural field, and provide different tools to organize your work in more informal ways and still have a legal body and they also do a lot of the legal stuff for you.

It would be interesting to see how all of this works in practice and I would definitely like to visit them in Brussels, so maybe when the Produforum team goes, I could join them…

I used the opportunity to test out my Inkling :) I definitely need to practice more on this… And see that the connection between the pen and the reading device is always working. But practice makes better, right? :P
